Description:

The AddPath add-in overcomes a serious limitation of Excel: It allows you to print the workbook's full path in a header or footer. Features:

  • You can select the location for the path: Left header, center header, right header, left footer, center footer, or right footer.
  • You can select the font size for the header or footer text.
  • The path is updated automatically, so you can change the workbook's name or path without having to make any modifications.
  • No VBA programming knowledge required.
  • This add-in is fully functional, not crippled, and has no nag messages. It's not even password-protected. It's absolutely free, with no strings attached.

NOTE:
This add-in requires Excel 97, and it will not work with Excel 5 or Excel 95.

Important!

Before using this add-in, it's important that you understand how it works. When the AddPath add-in is installed (see instructions below), you'll have a new command on the Tools menu: Add Path to Header or Footer.

When you select this new command, you'll see the dialog box shown above. Select the location for the workbook's path, and then select the style.

When you click OK, the add-in will insert a VBA macro into your workbook. This macro will be executed automatically whenever you print or preview your workbook. The macro simply inserts the workbook's full path into the specified header or footer position.

Please note that the action of this subroutine will override any normal header or footer text that you enter in the specified header or footer position. The only way to stop this automatic behavior is to delete the subroutine using the Visual Basic editor.

Installation:

  1. Download the J-Walk AddPath add-in (it's a self-extracting EXE file).
  2. Extract the XLA add-in file by double-clicking the ADDPATH.EXE file.
  3. Start Excel 97 and select the Tools - Add-Ins command. Don't even try using it with previous versions of Excel.
  4. In the Add-Ins dialog box, click the Browse button and locate addpath.xla (the file you extracted in Step #2).
  5. Click OK
  6. Activate your workbook.
  7. Select Tools - Add Path to Header or Footer from the menu.
